Nurse Päivi Peltomaa’s experiences of using 6D Tape in lymphatic drainage and scar treatment

I’m Päivi Peltomaa, lymphatic drainage therapist and nurse. My clinic Lymphatic and Health Care Service Päivi Peltomaa has been operating since 1995.

What kind of clients do you treat with 6D Tape?

I use 6D Tape to treat a lot of clients recovering from various surgeries. Often my clients have had surgery related to cancer treatment, but I also treat other scars and swellings after surgical procedures.

What do you think are the best treatments for 6D Tape?

6D Tape is insanely good at treating scars. For example, after cancer treatment, the client may have undergone a breast reconstruction using tissue transplanted from other parts of the body, and the transplantation has left large scars. For example, clients who have often developed long scars on their backs as a result of reconstruction – for the treatment of such scars, 6D Tape works particularly well in my opinion.

I have also had very good results with 6D Tape in the treatment of clients recovering from joint replacement surgery. When a new knee replacement is inserted, often the scar left by the operation grows attached to its base and begins to tighten. Treatment with 6D Tape has helped effectively decrease the tightness of such scars.

6D Tape treatment has also helped chronic pain patients. I taped a male client who was in considerable pain at night. A long tape was attached to the outer edge of the thigh, and the customer also moved the tape by the handles at home. When the pain eased, the client was able to sleep again and was able to sleep better at night. It is easy for the customer to use 6D Tape also during the day, as the tape can be moved by the handles even when done on top of clothes.

What other experiences do you have with 6D Tape?

In my opinion, the possibility of self-treatment is one of the advantages of 6D Tape and supports the work of the therapist. After I have taped and treated the client in my clinic, they can go home with the tape and continue self-care at home for several days. After the treatment, I guide my clients to read the self-care instructions on the 6D Tape website.

Do you often use a specific taping technique?

It is worth remembering that the tape can also be cut and the handles still hold up well. E.g. When taping the knee, I leave one end of the 6D Tape whole and cut the other end so that it branches. I place a whole handle above the patella and branches around the patella.

How easy was it to start using 6D Tape?

Getting started with 6D Tape was really easy.

How did you find 6D Tape?

I’ve been using 6D Tape for a long time – ever since it hit the market. I first became acquainted with 6D taping in a training led by physiotherapist Jussi Karkela in the early days of 6D Tape, and I have been using it ever since.

What kind of greetings would you send to new users?
